From July 2024 to May 2026, Suryakumar Yadav was India's captain. During his tenure, the Men in Blue won the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup trophies.

Suryakumar Yadav isn’t spiteful. Just hours after getting sacked as India’s T20I captain and dropped from the team, the 2-time T20 World Cup winner wished the best to Team India. Although he didn’t mention Shreyas Iyer, his replacement as skipper, one can’t forget that he shared the dressing room with most of the other members of the squad.

Suryakumar Yadav takes it on the chin

But there’s no bad blood between him and Shreyas. They have shared the Mumbai dressing room in domestic cricket with each other for over a decade now. It wasn’t as if Shreyas forced him out, since he wasn’t even in the team during the T20 World Cup 2026. In fact, it was Suryakumar’s silent willow that made the selectors look elsewhere.

“Wishing this highly skilled group all the best for the challenges ahead,” Suryakumar wrote on Instagram.

All praise for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi

Suryakumar also congratulated Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who received his maiden India call-up and will become the youngest debutant in India’s cricket history, breaking Sachin Tendulkar’s 37-year-old record at just 15 years old.

“You have earned it all and how. Super excited to follow your journey,” Suryakumar wrote.
