Coming in to bat after Rashid Khan dismissed both Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan quickly, SKY took the onus on himself. The World No.1 T20 batter stitched valuable partnerships with Nehal Wadhera and Vishnu Vinod to steady the MI innings.

Once past 50, Surya knocked into a different gear. Mohammed Shami, Alzarri Joseph and Mohit Sharma were no match as he literally toyed with the Gujarat bowlers as Mumbai Indians went past 200. A bit like Jaiswal the other night, Surya was running out of chances to get to his hundred, but with 11 needed off 3, Surya smashed 2 sixes to get to the milestone.
He becomes the first player to score a century against Hardik Pandya’s side in the IPL. The previous best was 92 by CSK’s Ruturaj Gaikwad. As for MI, he becomes the 5th player to score a century for the franchise. It is also the first century by an MI player in almost a decade. Lendl Simmons was the last player to score in triple digits with his knock coming way back in 2014.
