Sourav Ganguly slams Akhtar’s suggestion: Virat Kohli can play all formats

Virat Kohli last played a T20I in November last year.

Sourav Ganguly has launched into Virat Kohli’s defence after ex Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar suggested he should retire from T20s. Akhtar made those claims suggesting Virat should shift his focus on extending his career in ODIs and Tests.

Virat last played in the shortest format in the T20 World Cup in Australia. Hardik Pandya has been leading in T20s, with Dravid opting for a reboot. Now 34, Akhtar suggested that the former India captain should focus on Test cricket.

Sourav Ganguly however smashed Akhtar’s suggestions. Ganguly, who was BCCI President when Kohli was captain.

“Virat Kohli should play whatever cricket he wants to play, because he performs,” Ganguly told reporters.

Virat’s future has been a huge debate as India enter a phase of transition. The former India captain struggled in the WTC Final and will aim to make it big in the upcoming Asia Cup and the World Cup.
