Sourav Ganguly criticizes Rohit Sharma-Hardik Pandya comparison, lends support to new MI captain

Pandya has been jeered by the crowd in all three venues he's played in so far, and fans want Rohit to return as captain after the Mumbai Indians have lost three consecutive matches.

Having himself been removed as captain in the past, Delhi Capitals Director of Cricket, Sourav Ganguly, is sympathetic towards former Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Rohit Sharma. After a sudden change in leadership last year, new MI skipper Hardik Pandya has come under heavy criticism.

Before the MI vs DC match on April 7, Ganguly came out in support of Pandya and Rohit while aiming at those who were blaming either of the individuals. Speaking in the pre-match press conference, he bashed the crowd’s treatment of Pandya and praised ‘classy’ Rohit.

Ganguly criticizes crowd behavior toward Hardik Pandya

Ganguly said that the fans’ treatment has been unacceptable, and their jeering at Hardik isn’t correct. He lent his support to Rohit, claiming that he is in a different class than the new Mumbai Indians skipper. The former BCCI President didn’t blame either the former or current captain, and if there is any criticism, it should be directed towards the franchise.

“Fans shouldn’t boo Hardik Pandya; it’s not correct. Rohit Sharma is a different class; his performance has been on a different level. But it’s not Hardik’s fault that he has been appointed as captain by the franchise,” said Ganguly.
