However, less than 24 hours after the completion of the third one-day in Delhi, Gaikwad travelled to Punjab and played an absolute gem of an innings. While his knock consisted of 12 fours and five sixes, it came at a strike rate of 172.31.
In the process, he also stitched a crucial 49-run partnership with Rahul Tripathi. Further on, he formed another crucial 59-run partnership with Naushad Sheikh as well. His brilliant knock came to an end during the final over of the first innings as he was caught by Rahul Singh off Mohit Kumar’s bowling. Nevertheless, the Maharashtra skipper ensured that his side got to a good score. As the Services had to score 186 to win, it was never going to be easy.

However, the Rajat Paliwal-led side went on to chase the total with four balls to spare. Thus, Gaikwad’s stupendous 112 went in vain. Having said that, his performance was one of the positives for his side. It is to be noted that this was Gaikwad’s second T20 hundred, his first was during the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League, while playing for Chennai Super Kings.

As far as the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022 is concerned, Gaikwad became the second individual to score a century in this edition, the first being Devdutt Padikkal’s 124* against Maharashtra on Tuesday. Hence, Ruturaj Gaikwad once again proved to everyone why he’s one of the most talented youngsters in India. Thus, it will be exciting to see if he can continue his good form.
