SMAT T20 2022: The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy is a key T20 competition in India domestic calendar. It is the first major domestic competition of the season and it starts from October 11. The SMAT has been dominated by teams from the South in the last four seasons, with Karnataka and Tamil Nadu having won twice each. The latter is also the defending champions. However, teams like Maharashtra, Mumbai, Delhi, Bengal, Madhya Pradesh among others will be keen to challenge for the title over the next three weeks.

Overall, 37 teams are set to battle it out for the prestigious Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. With a huge number of teams in the competition, the league stage will be played across five venues. They are Rajkot, Jaipur, Mohali, Indore and Lucknow.
Teams have been divided into five Elite Groups from A to E. All the groups, as expected, are strong with some quality sides. Among all, Elite Group C seems to be quite tight with Kerala, Maharashtra, Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir also included.

Elite A ( matches to be played in Rajkot): Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Mizoram, Mumbai, Railways, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Vidarbha
Elite B ( matches to be played in Jaipur): Delhi, Goa, Hyderabad, Manipur, Puducherry, Punjab, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh
