Shreyas Iyer might be thinking, What more do I have to do to prove myself? Despite being the only man in ODI history to score 1,000 runs at an average of 50+ and a strike rate of 100+ at the number four position, he might be dropped from the India cricket team. Even in the last match, he scored a 32-ball half-century after Team India lost Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal early.
Shreyas Iyer likely to be dropped
According to a PTI report, Shreyas Iyer isn’t likely to feature in the India vs. England 2nd ODI. As we have seen since Gautam Gambhir took over as Team India’s head coach, he’ll continue to put the left-right combination into effect. That was the reason why Yashasvi Jaiswal opened ahead of Shubman Gill, and Axar Patel was promoted over KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya in Nagpur. For the same reason, Shreyas won’t play ahead, and Jaiswal will continue as Rohit Sharma’s partner up top in Cuttack.
“That’s something for the head coach and captain to decide. Yes, the left-right combination is an important factor, but that’s not a question for me to answer,” India’s batting coach Sitanshu Kotak told the press in Cuttack.

No Shreyas Iyer at optional practice
Team India had an optional practice session at the Barabati Stadium today (February 8), and Shreyas wasn’t present. Whereas Virat Kohli, who was out due to injury in Nagpur and was the reason why Shreyas made it to India’s XI for the 1st ODI, batted for an hour in the nets. Kohli was confirmed as ‘fit’ for the second match by Kotak, and this could indicate Shreyas might not play.
