It surely came as a heartbreak for Shreyas Iyer, who was snubbed from the BCCI’s central contract in February 2024. Despite having a wondrous ODI World Cup 2023, the Board of Control for Cricket in India axed him and Ishan Kishan from the central contract. But now, there are murmurs about Iyer being a certainty for the contract that is most likely to get announced by the end of March.
Top category for Iyer, what about Kishan?
According to the Times of India, Shreyas Iyer’s name has been approved, and the current Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain will be a guarantee among BCCI’s central contract list players. “Shreyas is set to regain his contract, and it will be in a top category. However, discussions are still ongoing on whether in Ishan’s case,” a source told TOI.
Shreyas Iyer was the standout performer for India in their triumphant 2025 Champions Trophy campaign, amassing 243 runs in five matches at an impressive average of 48.60, with two half-centuries to his name. Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan made a stunning IPL debut in the orange of SRH, unleashing a blistering 106 not out off just 47 balls against Rajasthan Royals. Two days later, Iyer continued his stellar form as well, hammering a century-worthy 97* for the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Ahmedabad.
Earlier today, there were reports that the top brass of the BCCI will meet and discuss the central contracts in Guwahati on either March 29 or 30. Gautam Gambhir, who is currently vacationing with his family in France, will be available for a meeting alongside BCCI’s chief selector Ajit Agarkar and Secretary Devajit Saikia.
