Shivam Dube has been on a roll since bursting on to the cricketing scene in IPL 2023. He has been scoring runs left and right for Chennai Super Kings, and that has continued in IPL 2024 too. The southpaw is making a strong case for himself ahead of the T20 World Cup in USA and West Indies, and former Australian opener Matthew Hayden believes Dube should definitely be a part of the Indian squad in the T20 World Cup.
Dube was one of CSK’s mainstays when they lifted their 5th IPL title in 2023. Dube excelled in the finisher’s role, scoring 418 runs in 16 matches at an average of 38. He has picked up where he left off last time around, already amassing 148 runs in 4 matches at an average of just under 50. His strike rate of over 160 is helping CSK a lot.
With his immaculate form, shout outs of Dube’s inclusion in India’s T20 World Cup squad is growing louder too. One of the vocal supporters is Matthew Hayden, who believes Dube would be an ideal addition to the India team in Caribbean pitches.

”The conditions which don’t bounce a lot. Now, I know the first game is going to be up in New York for India against Pakistan, but generally, power hitters who love to hit the ball in these sort of ranges, they can really dominate in the Caribbean. So that’s an exciting prospect, actually. And, we’re talking about Indian selection with IPL and they go hand in hand because of the pressure, dovetailing, performances together. Yuvraj Singh and Irfan Pathan, their eyes light up when they see the possibility of the inclusion of Shivam Dube,” Hayden said in an interaction with Star Sports.
“I think it’s an interesting call and a watch this space, certainly. And he’s not doing it this season, he has done it last year as well. He has done it for a very long period of time. Last year also he was top class,” Hayden added.
