So, the India playing XI is finally revealed. And much like what many reports had suggested, Shubman Gill has gone with Washington Sundar and Nitish Kumar Reddy, along with Akash Deep in the XI. That means, debutant of the last match — Sai Sudharsan has been axed from the XI, and Karun Nair is the new No. 3 for the team.
Sai Sudharsan Axed, Jasprit Bumrah Out
That means, despite being fit, the management has also left out Jasprit Bumrah for no reason, and Kuldeep Yadav has been overlooked for selection in Tests, once again. Now, the team is left with no frontline bowler, who can pick up 20 wickets. The spearhead of the Indian attack would be Mohammed Siraj, who looked ineffective in the Leeds Test, and has 102 wickets to his name in 37 Tests.
Karun Nair is New No. 3
Yes, Indian bats deep till no. 8, with Washington Sundar stationed there, but the bowling attack is rather toothless. Nitish Kumar Reddy has five wickets to his name, Sundar has 25, Jadeja, despite having over 300 wickets, has been poor in England with the ball. Another surprisingly omission is, Arshdeep Singh was also not considered for selection.
As far as the toss is concerned, England opted to bowl first. That also means that India would be bowling last on this Edgbaston wicket, where it could be difficult for them to pick up 20 wickets.
India (Playing XI): Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Karun Nair, Shubman Gill(c), Rishabh Pant(w), Nitish Kumar Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna.
