Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson wants to follow his head coach Rahul Dravid’s path. The Indian legend returned to RR after a decade, following stints at the National Cricket Academy, India A, and the India cricket team.
Sanju Samson wants to follow ‘the Rahul Dravid way’
Having come back, Dravid asked Samson what direction he wants to take the franchise. The wicketkeeper didn’t hesitate and told his coach that he just wishes to do what Dravid had been doing at RR before leaving.
“When he came back, he asked me, ‘Sanju, what do you stand for in this franchise?’ and I told him, ‘Sir, it’s very easy; I just continued from where you left,'” Samson told JioHotstar.
Captain on & off the field
The RR captain then went on to explain what a great role model Dravid is. The legendary batter is often hailed as an ‘ultimate gentleman,’ and that’s what Samson further reiterated.
Back in his formative years, Sanju saw what Dravid used to do up close. How he behaved with players of different statures alike. The way he conducted himself in team meetings. He was a leader both on and off the field. That’s what Samson aspires to be as well.
“As a captain, he used to lead from the front and off the field as well. There is a lot to learn from him as a character. All the small instances, how he used to treat the young people, how he used to take care of the seniors, how he communicated, and how he talked during meetings. All those things I quietly observed, and I feel like I somewhat do the same thing,” Samson added.
