Rohit Sharma’s issues in the longer format (Tests) can’t overshadow how well he did in the shortest format for the India cricket team in 2024. His incredible display up top was one of the major reasons Team India won the T20 World Cup 2024. He led from the front, showing intent from the get-go, and therefore has been rewarded by being named captain of the ICC Men’s T20I Team of the Year 2024.

Rohit Sharma isn’t the only player to be rewarded from India. Excluding him, three others have found a place in ICC’s XI. Two fast bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh, feature along with Hardik Pandya. All were the main men behind Team India’s success story in the West Indies and the USA and therefore have been rewarded.

T20 World Cup performers rewarded
Apart from the four Indians, no other country has more than one representative. Travis Head, who had a T20I renaissance, has been picked as Rohit Sharma’s opening partner. Dangerous Phil Salt from England and safe Babar Azam from Pakistan follow them.
Nicholas Pooran has been picked as the wicketkeeper, and Zimbabwe’s Sikandar Raza, who didn’t even play in the T20 World Cup, has been picked as well. Two leg spinners, Wanindu Hasaranga and Rashid Khan, will be the main tweakers, with Raza present to assist them.
