Ahead of the Team India squad selection for the ICC T20 World Cup, the keeper’s spot is yet to be decided. Just before the start of IPL 2024, there were as many as 5 potential candidates for the keeper’s job. Now it comes down to either of Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul or both.
The Selection Committee is happy with the progress that Rishabh Pant has made since his comeback into action. On the other hand, KL Rahul continues to be India’s designated number 1 keeper in the team. As for the likes of other keeper’s like Jitesh Sharma, Sanju Samson, and Dhruv Jurel, they haven’t been that impressive in IPL.
Pant or KL Rahul or Both?
Rishabh Pant looked rusty upon his return to IPL 2024. But the Delhi Capitals skipper roared back to form with brilliant fifties and has continued to show his hard hitting skills. The selectors are particularly happy with Pant’s progress and thus he is a front runner in making it to the T20 World Cup squad.
KL Rahul has struggled leading Lucknow Super Giants. But the able batter has showcased his fine batting style in the ongoing tournament. It is highly likely that KL Rahul will make it to the ICC tournament owing to the immense amount of wealth which he brings in.
Sanju Samson has also been brilliant with the bat. The Rajasthan Royals skipper hogged the limelight with his hard hitting skills. Samson has promoted himself up the order and has flourished at his new position at number 3. It remains to be seen if Samson makes the cut for the ICC T20 World Cup squad.
