Rinku Singh will be missed as choosing four spinners is little too much for Harbhajan Singh

As cricket enthusiasts eagerly await the commencement of the T20 World Cup, Harbhajan Singh's insights provide valuable perspectives on India's squad composition and strategic considerations.

Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has shared his insights on India’s squad for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2024, expressing concerns over the exclusion of middle-order batter Rinku Singh and the inclusion of four spinners in the team.

T20 World Cup anticipation

With the ICC T20 World Cup set to commence on June 1, cricket enthusiasts eagerly await the action-packed tournament scheduled to take place in venues across the USA and the Caribbean until June 29.

Among the squad announcements, Harbhajan Singh highlighted the absence of Rinku Singh, who despite being named in the reserves, could have provided a significant boost to India’s middle-order batting prowess.

Speaking to ANI on Monday, Harbhajan said, “The World Cup team has been selected. The batting is good. I think we are one fast bowler short. One player that I think we will miss is Rinku Singh, because he is someone who can win the match single-handedly for us. He can chase down 60 runs in 20 balls. I think selecting four spinners is a bit too much. Three would have been enough. I wish the Team India all the best, hope they bring the cup.”

Rinku Singh contribution

Rinku Singh, known for his explosive batting style, has showcased his talent in previous T20 matches, demonstrating the ability to single-handedly sway the course of a game. Despite his remarkable performances, Rinku’s exclusion from the main squad raises questions about India’s batting depth, particularly in high-pressure situations.

Spin Conundrum for India in T20 World Cup

Harbhajan Singh also raised concerns regarding the inclusion of four spinners in the squad, deeming it excessive for T20 cricket.

While acknowledging the prowess of spinners like Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Yuzvendra Chahal, Harbhajan questioned the feasibility of fielding four spinners in a single match.

“I do not think we will ever play four spinners in a game. Ravindra Jadeja will play. Maybe Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal will play with him. Maybe we will field three spinners in a game. We will get to know the combo on seeing the conditions,” he said.

India’s prospects in T20 World Cup

As the T20 World Cup approaches, Harbhajan Singh remains optimistic about India’s prospects, particularly in their crucial encounter against Pakistan on June 9.

With a track record of success against their arch-rivals, India aims to kickstart their campaign on a winning note, setting the tone for the tournament ahead.

Rishabh Pant vs Sanju Samson: Wicketkeeping Dilemma

The debate between Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson for the wicketkeeper-batsman role continues to garner attention.

While Pant’s impressive performances for Delhi Capitals in the IPL merit recognition, Harbhajan Singh advocates for Sanju Samson’s inclusion, citing his consistent form and improved batting prowess.
