Vaughan claimed that playing in the IPL playoffs would have served as better preparation for English players that playing Pakistan at home.

England players leaving India to play the Pakistan series before the IPL playoffs may have made the England Cricket Board happy, but former English cricketer Michael Vaughan feels IPL playoffs would have prepared the English players for T20 World Cup better than playing against Pakistan. All English players selected to play for England in the T20 World Cup 2024 left their respective IPL franchises to play a 4-match T20I series against Pakistan ahead of the global event.

Vaughan claimed that playing in the IPL playoffs would have served as better preparation for English players that playing Pakistan at home.

England missed a trick by not letting Jacks, Salt, Buttler play in the IPL playoffs. Pressure, crowd, expectations, it would’ve been a better preparation than playing a T20 game against Pakistan,” Vaughan said in the ‘Club Prairie Fire’ podcast.

The ECB released a statement a few days ago and asked the English players selected in the T20 World Cup to join the team for the series against Pakistan. ECB’s stance drew a lot of criticism from some Indian legends, some of who claimed that money should be docked off players who don’t stay for the entirety of IPL.
