Following an embarrasing defeat in the first IND vs ENG T20I in Kolkata, England are set to make some changes to their team come the second match. On the eve of the second T20I, scheduled at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, England have announced that Gus Atkinson will be replaced by Brydon Carse. However, their is an uncertainty around Jacob Bethell, who is now an RCB player. Bethell could sit out due to illness and thus Jamie Smith has been added as a cover.
Changes for 2nd IND vs ENG T20I
England Cricket took to their Twitter, announcing that Carse will be replacing Atkinson and the inclusion of Jamie Smith in their 12-man squad. Atkinson had a day to forget in Kolkata, where he made a painstaking 2 off 13 balls and leaked 38 runs in his two overs. As for Carse, he will join the likes of Jofra Archer and Mark Wood and the trio can surely pose some trouble to the Indian batters.
As for Bethell, however, the star all-rounder missed the pre-match training due to illness. There is an uncertainty if he will be eligible to play or not. As a result, Jamie Smith has been added. Smith is a traditional keeper-batter who has played 16 matches for England in the other two formats. However, he is yet to make his T20I debut for England. England already have two keeping options in Phil Salt and skipper Jos Buttler.
Losing Bethell could be a vital blow for them, as his left-arm spin could easily come in handy at Chepauk, one of India’s most spin-friendly grounds. It will definitely be a challenging task for the visitors, who were humbled by a ruthless India, led by Suryakumar Yadav. Varun Chakravarthy spun his web before Abhishek Sharma and other Indian batters completed the run-chase with 43 balls to spare!
