Pune’s Gahunje Stadium beholds for IND vs BAN in ODI World Cup

Gahunje Stadium in Pune is buzzing with excitement as it hosts its first World Cup match in 27 years, featuring India vs Bangladesh on October 19. The venue is also set to host four more ODI World Cup matches and is undergoing renovations for the first time since its inauguration in April 2012.

There’s a palpable sense of anticipation at the Maharashtra Cricket Association’s (MCA) stadium in Gahunje as Pune is set to host the ODI World Cup match after a lengthy hiatus of 27 years. When India takes on Bangladesh on October 19, it will mark the first-ever World Cup match involving India played at the MCA Stadium in Pune.

Furthermore, there are four more ODI World Cup matches scheduled at the venue: Afghanistan vs Sri Lanka on October 30, New Zealand vs South Africa on November 1, England vs Netherlands on November 8, and Australia vs Bangladesh on November 12. To prepare for these matches, the MCA stadium is undergoing renovations for the first time since it was inaugurated in April 2012.

“Gahunje stadium is well-maintained. But since this is an international event we are upgrading the stadium for the first time in the last 11 years. The entire stadium is getting a new coat, a new cover shed is being installed and landscaping is being fine-tuned,” said Ajinkya Joshi, Chief Operating Officer, Maharashtra Cricket Association.

Joshi also said that ICC and BCCI officials conducted a two-day inspection visit on Wednesday and Thursday to assess the ongoing developments, and they expressed their satisfaction. He also mentioned that, in order to prevent traffic congestion around the stadium, approximately 20 hectares of land have been leased from local villagers to expand the existing parking facilities.

The Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA) has made an exciting arrangement for cricket enthusiasts, which involves hosting a trophy parade starting from the Marriot Hotel on Senapati Bapat Road and concluding at the College of Agriculture. This parade will feature the participation of cricketers, including international players. Additionally, on September 26, cricket lovers will have the opportunity to view the World Cup trophy on display at the College of Agriculture, offering a special treat for fans.
