With the ICC T20 World Cup just around the corner, concerns are rising in Pakistan about the national team’s squad selection. Former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Ramiz Raja has criticized the delay in announcing the final team, raising questions about player form and team strategy.
Where is Pakistan Squad for T20 World Cup?
While all other participating nations have finalized their squads, Pakistan remains the sole exception. This delay has Ramiz Raja worried, as he expressed on his YouTube channel. “Pakistan is the only team that has yet to announce their squad for the T20 World Cup,” he stated. This indecisiveness, according to Raja, suggests ongoing player evaluations and a lack of clarity in team selection. “They are still trying to read the potential,” he remarked, “All players are on trial. It feels like every player is on trial.”

Bowling concerns, Babar Azam bright spot
Raja specifically highlighted concerns with the Pakistani bowling attack. He pointed to recent struggles by key bowlers like Hasan Ali and Mohammad Amir, questioning their current form and effectiveness. He even went so far as to call Abbas Afridi a “lost cause.”
However, Raja did acknowledge the positive performances of captain Babar Azam, praising his recent batting form and impressive strike rate. “Babar’s strike rate has been outstanding,” he said, “even though it came against a weak bowling line-up, runs are runs.”
Pakistan recent T20I performance
Pakistan’s recent T20I series against Ireland offered a glimpse into their strengths and weaknesses. While they managed to secure a narrow 2-1 series win, their performance was far from flawless. A crucial partnership between Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan salvaged the final match after a shaky start by Saim Ayub.
The bowling attack also displayed inconsistency, with Shaheen Shah Afridi picking up wickets but leaking runs. The combined efforts of Mohammad Amir and Naseem Shah yielded only four wickets while conceding a significant number of runs.
