Maxwell has not been able to get going at all in the two matches RCB have played so far in IPL 2024. The batter has scored 0, and 3 runs respectively in the first two matches. His choice of shots have been poor, and if RCB need to overcome their trophy drought in IPL, they need Maxwell at the top his form.

However, Maxwell shares a similar trait to some lethal strikers in world football who hardly touch the ball before pouncing on a chance to score a goal. He has the ability to turn any game on it’s head. If you still have a doubt, ask the Afghanistan team! So one shouldn’t read too much into Maxwell’s inconsistency. After all, the man has a made a career out of it.
Maxwell’s torrid run in IPL 2024
Maxwell has not been in good touch in the IPL 2024 so far. He got out on a golden duck in the IPL 2024 opener against Chennai Super Kings. The second match against Punjab Kings did not yield any positive result for Maxwell too. The Australian batter has so far played only six balls in two IPL matches and has scored three runs.
RCB batting coach backs Maxwell
However, RCB batting coach Neil McKenzie is not too bothered about the off-form of Maxwell, saying Maxwell will win them games in the later stages of the tournament.
“You know, that’s cricket. It’s up and down. It’s only two games. We know with Maxie, he’s going to win us a couple of games. He has made a slower start to the tournament, but we know that he’s going to win games for us later on in the tournament,” McKenzie said in the pre-match press conference.
“It’s not a case of when that will happen. You’re still in early stages (of IPL). In the high-octane T20 cricket, you know, your fortunes change pretty quickly, you know, they change overnight,” he added.
Glenn ‘Unpredictable’ Maxwell
If one wants to bash Maxwell for his off-form, it can certainly be done. But one should not be surprised if Maxwell comes out all guns blazing to hand KKR their first loss of the IPL 2024 season and then get another golden duck in the next match. If there’s one adjective that defines Maxwell, it certainly has to be ‘unpredictable’!
