Numbers are overrated: Rohit Sharma wants change in mindset for Indian players

India captain Rohit Sharma brushed aside the need to focus on numbers, asserting that it was essential for players to play with freedom

India skipper Rohit Sharma delved into the change in the mindset of the team that he brought as the skipper of the side amid the ongoing IND vs ENG Test series. Stating that numbers were overrated to him, the Hitman noted that the players were going out and playing with more freedom.

Rohit Sharma wants mindset over numbers to change

Speaking to former wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik on Jio Cinema, Sharma advocated for the need to chase numbers while players go out to play and asked them to enjoy the atmosphere, camaraderie instead. He asserted that numbers are overrated and that people in India looked at numbers more. He argued that India had gone on to lose the ODI World Cup in 2019 despite hitting five centuries. Sharma added that the numbers did not matter if the team was unable to win the trophy.

I wanted to bring a certain change, players going out there and playing with a lot of freedom. People are not looking at numbers, people are not looking at their milestone and just play games. Numbers are overrated to me,” Rohit Sharma said.
