ICC ignores Rohit Sharma’s plea, WTC Final 2027 set for England after IPL in June

Rohit Sharma questioned ICC's call to have England host World Test Championship Final. But WTC Final 2027 will be in England again.

India Cricket Team captain Rohit Sharma questioned ICC’s planning for the World Test Championship Final. But the International Cricket Council (ICC) seems to have ignored Rohit’s plea. WTC Final 2027 will also be played in England and in June, after the IPL 2027 Final.

That means, for a fourth consecutive time, England will host the WTC Final with a rain threat in June, immediately after the Indian Premier League.

On Friday, the ICC issued a Request for Proposal for a Social Responsibility Provider listing England as the venue for WTC Final 2027.

WTC Final 2027 in England again

With the Future Tours Programme out, England will host the WTC Final for a fourth consecutive time. However, if India do reach the final of 2027, they will once again find it difficult. In 2023, India only had a week’s time to acclimatise to the English conditions after spending two months in IPL. Australia battered India by 209 runs to lift the World Test Championship mace. Similarly, New Zealand beat India in 2021 to win the title, also in June.

World Test Championship Final venues

  • 2021: India vs New Zealand, Southampton, England
  • 2023: India vs Australia, The Oval, London, England
  • 2025: TBD vs TBD, Lord’s, London, England
  • 2027: TBD vs TBD, England

“Why after the IPL final? Why can’t it be March? June is not the only month we should play the final. It can be played any time of the year and anywhere in the world, not just in England, it can be played anywhere in the world,” Rohit Sharma questioned.
