New PCB chief? Viral ‘Bado Badi’ singer makes Pakistan cricket ‘offer’ they can’t refuse

Pakistan singer Chahat Fateh Ali Khan has asked PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi to vacate his position after the team's performance in the T20 World Cup

Singer Chahat Fateh Ali Khan, a former cricketer, has offered to replace Mohsin Naqvi as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman. The ‘Bado Badi’ singer’s ‘offer’ comes after Pakistan’s red-faced exit from the T20 World Cup. Khan, whose real name is Kashif Rana, has played two first class matches for Pakistan and has an 12-year experience in County Cricket.

Cricketer-turned-singer wants to be PCB chief

Chahat Fateh Ali Khan suggested that Mohsin Naqvi should let go of the position in PCB and should focus on his responsibilities as the country’s Interior Minister. Further, he claimed that he had the experience and the plan to put Pakistan cricket team back on the right track. Additionally, he vowed to personally oversee the coaching of players four days in a week.

I am ready to get the PCB and the cricket team on the right track. If appointed chairman, I would personally oversee player performances and coaching four days a week. I will focus on discipline and will not tolerate any interference,” Khan stated at a press conference while promoting his social media film.

“I am not criticising Naqvi. I just want him to consider my offer. As he is also the interior minister with significant responsibilities, I believe he should delegate the PCB chairmanship to me. This is no disrespect to Mohsin Naqvi but it’s not for him,” he added.

How Pakistan flopped in T20 WC

Looking at PCB’s track record, a slew of changes are incoming after Babar Azam and co’s miserable performance in the T20 WC. The side started off the campaign on an embarassing note by losing to the USA. They lost to arch-rivals India in the very next game despite having the chance to win the game comfortably.

PAK managed to get their only victory in the game against Canada but it came a little too late. The fate of the team was sealed as the PAK vs IRE contest was called off due to wet outfield, bringing the curtains down on their WC campaign.
