Mayank Yadav should get personal trainer, medical expert for 2 years: Ian Bishop unveils revolutionary idea for BCCI

Mayank suffered an abdominal strain during LSG’s 33-run win against Gujarat Titans on Sunday night and has since been ruled out of the clash against Delhi Capitals.

Former West Indies cricketer Ian Bishop on Wednesday talked about taking special care of India’s new pace spearhead Mayank Yadav. Mayank Yadav caught the fancy of cricket lovers in IPL 2024 by consistently bowling over 150 kph for the Lucknow Super Giants. Yadav had a grand start to his LSG career. He has so far taken six wickets in his first two games giving away just 54 runs in the process. Mayank, because of his pace and his length, was immediately touted as the next big thing in Indian cricket.

However, Mayank suffered an abdominal strain during LSG’s 33-run win against Gujarat Titans on Sunday night and has since been ruled out of the clash against Delhi Capitals.

Importance of S&C coach

Injury worry for fast bowlers have long been an issue, with many bowlers spending long spells on the sidelines. With the kind of strain fast bowlers go through, it is a growing worry.

The need for Strength and Conditioning coaches are getting more important with each passing day. With games coming thick and fast for International cricketers, it becomes imperative for players to take care of their body, specially for fast bowlers.

Bishop’s idea

In that light, Ian Bishop took to X (previously Twitter) to advocate in favour of assigning a personal strength and conditioning trainer. He also asked for medical expertise year round to monitor the pace spearhead for the next 2 years.

Been discussing this idea privately with a colleague for the past week. Re the “special” talent of Mayank Yadav. Its an opportune time in cricket to explore the test of assigning a personal S & C trainer, & medical expertise year round to monitor him for the next 2 years,” he wrote.
