RCB vs KKR, IPL 2026: Defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have aced the 193-run chase and are very close to qualifying for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 Playoffs. As for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), their bowling and fielding just weren’t up to the mark, and this loss has basically eliminated them from the tournament.

Moreover, poor fielding let them down. Virat Kohli, who scored his 9th IPL hundred, was dropped on 21. Devdutt Padikkal was also dropped on 22, and there were countless other misfields. In the first IPL 2026 match in Raipur, the surface had variable bounce, making it difficult for the batters to play their shots. RCB struggled to chase 167 on it. That's a striking number for a surface that's supposed to be batting-friendly. Batters will need time at the crease before playing freely, which makes the powerplay overs critical for both teams.

Based on recent T20s at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium, teams batting first have scored noticeably better. That's not what you'd expect from an IPL venue in May, but Raipur has its own character. The surface grips. The ball doesn't come onto the bat. And when the pitch plays as it did in the MI game, 160 feels like 200.
