The ICC and the BCCI along with the SLC are expected to announce the T20 World Cup schedule and venues in a week's time but there is no confirmation yet.

The T20 World Cup 2026 is all set to begin on February 7 with the final on March 8. India and Sri Lanka will host the 10th edition of the tournament. And that’s it. That’s all the information available for the tournament with less than 100 days to go. The host BCCI and SLC (Sri Lanka Cricket), and the ICC have neither announced the schedule nor the venues. It will be the fans who will suffer as they cannot plan their leaves or flights and hotels without the schedule or the venues.

This is not the first time, though. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the tickets for the World Cup 2023, with just 100 days to go before revising the schedule again. The Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 is set for June-July. The England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has already confirmed three venues. Cricket Australia and the ICC announced the full schedule for T20 WC 2022 ten months in advance. When InsideSport reached out to a BCCI official on the schedule, the response was “soon”. InsideSport did not receive any response from the ICC.

T20 World Cup 2026 venues

With the BCCI busy with the Women’s World Cup at home, the discussion for the T20 World Cup took a backseat. However, with the BCCI officials heading to Dubai for the ICC meeting, an announcement is expected after that. The ICC meeting is set to be a showdown between the PCB and the BCCI over the Asia Cup 2025 trophy. However, so far, two venues are confirmed. The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad will host the final on March 8. Colombo’s R Premadasa Stadium will host the India vs Pakistan match.

Apart from that, Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, and Kolkata are all set to host matches. Vishakhapatnam and Hyderabad are also in the fray apart from Dharamsala. M Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai is undergoing renovations for the T20 World Cup. However, Bengaluru can miss out once again due to the impasse over M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The Karnataka government’s panel has declared the venue unfit for major events. And if the decision is not reversed, Bengaluru will lose out on T20 World Cup 2026 matches after the Women’s World Cup.

Fans left in lurch

With still no confirmation on the venues and dates, fans have been left frustrated. The travelling fans suffered the last time India hosted a World Cup, with a change in venues derailing their plans. As there is no confirmation on the dates and venues, fans have no other option but to wait.

“It’s frustrating. Every time there is a World Cup in India, the schedule comes so late that there is no other option but to pay an exorbitant amount for hotels, flights and even tickets. Let’s say I want to plan for the India-Pakistan match in Colombo. I don’t know when it is. I can’t book tickets or even apply for leave,” one of the fans planning to travel to Sri Lanka told InsideSport.

As for travelling fans from Australia, England and South Africa, many have raised the issue of scheduling on social media platforms.
