King Kohli returns: RCB star’s form in away games rekindles 2016 fire

Virat Kohli is currently the Orange Cap holder in IPL 2025, with 443 runs from 10 games

Virat Kohli seems to be on the path to surpass his 2016 record in IPL – the season in which he accumulated the most runs in a season. One of the most consistent RCB batters, the batting maestro in currently the Orange Cap holder and has already gone past the halfway mark of the number of runs he scored in the previous season. That too, in just 10 matches. With more than 4 more matches left, he is well on course to break his own IPL record.

Greatest ever IPL season loading for Kohli?

Virat has six half-centuries to his name so far in IPL 2025. Five of these have come at away games while he has scored three consecutive fifties in RCB’s last three games. He is currently the Orange Cap holder with 443 runs to his name, averaging 63.28.

Kohli’s best season came in 2016 when he amassed 973 runs in 16 matches, which included 4 hundreds and 7 fifties. He averaged a mind-boggling 81.08 in that edition of IPL.

In IPL 2025, Kohli has registered scores of 59*, 31, 67, 62*, 73 and 51 in away games. While his knocks aren’t exactly fast-paced, he has anchored the innings for RCB in almost every away game. In fact, RCB have won all six away games played so far in IPL 2025. To make things sweeter, they have won all all four occasions when they chased this season.

Virat isn’t far away from eclipsing his 2016 record, given that RCB sill have four more games left in the league stage. Three out of these four games will be held at RCB’s home ground – M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru. The only away fixture will be against LSG on May 9.

Despite RCB and Kohli’s miserable form at home in IPL 2025, the batter managed to standout with a 70-run knock against RR, which also happened to be the side’s first win in Bengaluru in 2025. Prior to that win, Kohli registered scores of 7, 22 and 1 at home.
