Former India cricketer Robin Uthappa has claimed that India head coach Gautam Gambhir is very different in terms of his approach compared to Greg Chappell. Gambhir’s style of coaching has come under fire after the debacle in Down Under after India’s 3-1 thrashing at the hands of Australia in Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Uthappa claimed that Gambhir and skipper Rohit Sharma shared a good chemistry and said that the relationship between the two could take some time to develop.
“Gambhir, Chappell not similar”
Speaking about Gambhir’s challenges, Uthappa pointed out that the Indian head coach had to work with different captains – namely Rohit in Tests and ODIs and Suryakumar Yadav in T20Is.
“I disagree with you that his style is similar to Greg Chappell’s. I don’t agree with it at all. I have not met a more straightforward person than Gauti. He is very direct. You may not like what he says, but he will tell it you on your face, you can be sure of that and I love people like that,” Uthappa said.

There were lot of speculations over the relationship between Gambhir and Rohit, with some even claiming that the two were not on the same page. The reports did rounds after India’s loss in 4th and 5th IND vs AUS Test where the team selections came under fire.
“It is not like the chemistry is not there. It is there and you can see in Gambhir’s interviews. He respects and likes Rohit a lot. Sometimes, relationships take time, as both are leaders with their own styles,” Uthappa said talking about Gambhir-Rohit Sharma relationship.
