Former India batter Manoj Tiwary seems to have developed a tendency to flirt with controversies. Just a day back, he hit back at current head coach Gautam Gambhir, saying, it was not him alone who won KKR the IPL 2024. In fact, Tiwary went on to call Gambhir a “hypocrite”, for roping in foreign coaches like Ryan Ten Doeschate and Morne Morkel, after advocating for Indian coaches.
Gautam Gambhir vs Manoj Tiwary Gets Out of Hand
Talking on News24, he further substantiated his point, and even went on to reveal the part he played in making some defining calls for KKR, during his stint with the team. “I said, Gautam Gambhir is a hypocrite,” said Manoj Tiwary. “Hypocrite, since he doesn’t do, what he preaches. I think on a new channel, he said that all the foreign coaches in IPL and Team India, they don’t feel anything for India. When he had the chance of picking his support staff, why didn’t he pick our coaches.”
“Why did he have to bring Doeschate as the fielding coach, why did he have to get Morkel? He was the mentor at LSG, so he was helped. He has a good bonding with Doeschate and he was brought in. That’s why I called him a hypocrite, I know him closely.”
Tiwary Claims, He Got Sunil Narine to KKR
The 39-year-old could not stop himself there and instead chose to speak of his own contribution in KKR. “I know what contributions I’ve made for KKR, not just with the bat, but with my opinions as well. I’ve recommended players for the good of the team. It was me who brought Sunil Narine into the team.”

“It was Manoj Tiwary who asked Gambhir to get in Sunil Narine. ‘He is a mystery spinner, and a player like Rohit Sharma was not able to play him’. In my 7-year career, there were a lot of series’ that I was not a part of, but was seeing from outside. In one of the series vs West Indies, Rohit could not pick his carrom ball. So that was the thought behind getting him, since Kolkata was a slow wicket back then,” he added.
