Rashid Khan silences critics with spin wizardry against KKR, bags Sunil Narine & Andre Russell’s wickets

In the first 7 matches, Rashid Khan took 4 wickets and had failed to get a scalp in 4 games.

Rashid Khan has silenced his critics with a match-winning spell against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The leg-spinner hadn’t been at his best and was often outbowled by his spin partner at the Gujarat Titans (GT), R Sai Kishore. The Afghanistani ace seemed to be missing his line and lengths way too often.

In his first four matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season, Rashid had just 1 wicket to his name. But since then, he’s hit his stride. After solid performances against the Rajasthan Royals and Lucknow Super Giants, Rashid has undoubtedly delivered his best performance of the season against KKR.

Rashid Khan spins his web around KKR

Handed the ball by GT captain Shubman Gill in the last over of the powerplay, Rashid struck straightaway. He sent the dangerous and unpredictable Sunil Narine to the hut. The ball wasn’t that great. But neither GT nor Rashid cared. A wicket was needed, and the leggie delivered.

He bowled a very tight 8th over to keep KKR in check. Then, Gill decided to hold him back for the death overs. He reintroduced Rashid in the 16th over when 85 runs were needed. This time Rashid got Andre Russell‘s wicket. The all-rounder has been out of form, but everyone knows that he can change the game in a jiffy.

The pitch was spinning, and Russell didn’t seem to have a clue which way the ball was going. The all-rounder stepped down to smash the spinner but didn’t read the googly, and Jos Buttler dislodged the bails to virtually seal the match for GT.
