DC Qualification Scenarios: No result in Dharamsala dents Delhi Capitals’ hopes of IPL 2025 playoffs

Catch the IPL 2025 playoffs qualification scenario for the Delhi Capitals (DC). A new coaching staff with new captain, Axar Patel – How strong are DC's chances?

With PBKS vs DC abandoned due to a security threat in Dharamsala, Delhi Capitals are now in a precarious position. DC are 5th with 14 points from 12 matches after two consecutive no results. DC now need to win both matches as MI are also on 14 points with a better NRR and LSG are breathing down their neck. If DC win one, they can be eliminated. However, winning two also does not ensure them a spot in the playoffs, as they will next face Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians — both teams are in the playoff race and ahead of them.

Delhi Capitals at IPL 2025: Road so far

Under new captain Axar Patel, DC made a remarkable start to their IPL 2025 campaign. They began with an epic 1-run win over LSG, followed by dominating performances over SRH, CSK, and RCB. The Capitals’ first loss of the season came at home when a resurgent Mumbai Indians (MI) beat them with a 12-run win. Fascinatingly, a Super Over win over RR was next.

However, since their Super Over win over the Rajasthan Royals, DC have lost the momentum, winning only once, losing three games. Now, with two consecutive no results, their fate is not in their hands anymore.

IPL 2025 Playoffs: DC Qualification Scenarios

As of May 8, Delhi Capitals are among the teams that have completed 12 of their 14 group-stage matches. They sit 5th with 14 points with a 7-3 win-loss record. The no result in Hyderabad and Dharamsala did not help them.

Traditionally, 16 points is the benchmark for playoff qualification in the IPL. Delhi, currently on 13 points from 11 matches, will need to win at least 2 of their remaining 3 matches to automatically qualify for the playoffs.

DC still have two matches left. The next opponent are GT, who could ensure a playoff berth before the match on May 11. On May 15, DC will take on Mumbai Indians in a virtual knockout if they win against GT.
