MI IPL 2025 playoff scenarios: Hardik Pandya & Co need to win 2 out of 2

Catch the IPL 2025 playoff scenarios for the Mumbai Indians (MI). Hardik Pandya and Mahela Jayawerdene have a steep task ahead.

Mumbai Indians need to win the two remaining league stage matches in order to make it to the IPL 2025 playoffs. Hardik Pandya and co. suffered a 3-wicket defeat at the hands of GT on Tuesday. As a result, MI have slipped to the 4th position on the points table.

MI at IPL 2025 so far…

Mumbai’s tradition of failing to win in their first match of an IPL continued when the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) edged past them in Chennai. Then, MI stuttered again in Ahmedabad before finally tasting success when they ran through KKR at Wankhede. But then came two back-to-back 12-run defeats to LSG and RCB, respectively. Mumbai, who were once touted as the best chasing team, failed to find the right formula to hunt down totals.

But now, things have fallen into place for the five-time champions. They registered a come-from-behind win away from home over the team-in-form Delhi Capitals before humbling Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Fascinatingly, Mumbai registered five back-to-back wins. In total, they have won seven games.

As of May 7, Mumbai Indians are on the fourth spot with 14 points from 12 matches. They have won seven matches, losing five. Traditionally, 16 points is the benchmark for playoff qualification in the IPL. For an automatic qualification, Mumbai Indians will need two wins to make it 18 points.

It’s a mixed bag. MI still have two home games left, which is a huge plus. But both the home matches are against GT and DC, teams that are competing for a spot in the Top 4. The only away match is against Punjab Kings, who are also in the race for the playoffs.

Three teams are presently in the top half. Beating one or two of them is key. MI also end their season at home against Delhi Capitals, who’ve been among the top sides this season. But a final match at the Wankhede, especially if qualification is on the line, could bring out the best in them.

Here’s how MI’s path to the playoffs shapes up:
