Former India batter Robin Uthappa knows all about winning the IPL. Having been a part of the IPL winning team Kolkata Knight Riders in 2012 and 2014, Uthappa in a talk show explained why Royal Challengers Bengaluru does not win the IPL and what the team needs to do to win it.
RCB’s barren run
Royal Challengers Bengaluru are one of the three teams other than Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals who have been around since IPL’s inaugural season of 2008 and are yet to win the IPL.
Questions about not winning the IPL are raised more on RCB than the other two because of their star-studded line-up. Having Virat Kohli in their ranks besides the likes of Faf du Plessis and others makes RCB supporters dream of winning the IPL. However, they fall short every year.

Robin Uthappa, in a podcast with BeerBiceps, explained the reason behind RCB not winning the IPL.

“Ambati made a point about this a couple of weeks ago that all their experience is at the top. Where is the experience when you need it in the crunch moments? It’s common knowledge that Bengaluru’s stadium is the second highest altitude wise after Johannesburg. If you hit a ball in the air it stays hit. A great wicket to bat on, a small ground,” Uthappa explained.
“How did KKR do it in 2012 and 2014? They made it hard for visiting teams to score runs on their ground. They built their team around the conditions in the ground. The spinners came into play. They had Piyush Chawla, Sunil Narine, Shakib al Hassan, Kuldeep Yadav. If RCB do the same, the will have results much more in their favour. The science of winning the IPL is you have 7 games at home, you have to win 5 of them. Among 7 games away, win 3 or 4. If you qualify for the playoffs, anything can happen, ” he added.
