Double Blow for Delhi Capitals: David Warner & Ishant Sharma out of KKR clash

Prithvi Shaw is expected to feature in Monday's IPL game vs Shreyas Iyer-led side.

Delhi Capitals‘ (DC) fight for a playoff spot has been dealt a double blow with the confirmation that key players David Warner and Ishant Sharma will miss their upcoming match against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

David Warner & Ishant Sharma sidelined

Assistant coach Pravin Amre revealed the injury update after DC’s victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) on Saturday. Both David Warner and Ishant Sharma are expected to recover within a week, making them unavailable for the KKR encounter on Monday.

David Warner will miss his fourth match in five due to a thumb injury, while Ishant continues to battle back spasms.

The absence of these experienced players is undoubtedly a setback for DC. However, there is a glimmer of hope, with Amre confirming their expected return for the home game against Rajasthan Royals on May 7th.

DC also had a late change for the MI match, with opener Prithvi Shaw ruled out due to illness upon arrival at the stadium. Abishek Porel stepped in as his replacement.

Shaw is expected to feature in Monday’s IPL game vs Shreyas Iyer-led side.

Jake Fraser-McGurk’s heroics keep DC afloat

Despite the setbacks, DC emerged victorious against MI thanks to a phenomenal knock by Jake Fraser-McGurk. The young opener, brought in as a replacement for the injured Lungi Ngidi, smashed a blistering 84 runs off just 27 balls, propelling DC to a formidable total. This win keeps DC’s playoff hopes alive as they head into the crucial clash against KKR.
