IPL 2022: Top five all-rounders – While the spotlight is on the marquee players such as Ravi Ashwin, Shreyas Iyer, David Warner, and Pat Cummins, there will also be all-rounders, who the teams would be hoping to sign. The likes of Jason Holder, Mitchell Marsh, and Wanindu Hasaranga might trigger a bidding war among a few franchises. All-rounders are always a hot property in T20 cricket as they tend to have an impact with the bat and ball.

1: Mitchell Marsh

Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh is undoubtedly a hot property among franchises due to exploits for Australia and Big Bash League (BBL). Mitchell Marsh had a breakthrough year in 2021 as he scored 627 runs in 21 matches at an average of 36.88. Mitchell Marsh batted higher up the order for Australia and changed the complexion of the game due to his big hits.

The Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh though has not lived up to the expectation in the IPL. Things might change this year due to stellar form. He has set himself a base price of 2 crores. Few teams like RCB, DC, and PBKS might target Mitchell Marsh.

2: Trent Boult

New Zealand fast bowler Trent Boult has been an asset for IPL teams like Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals. Boult’s ability to get wickets in the power play and his death bowling skills make him one of the most sought-after bowlers. He is also a pretty handy customer with the bat in order and is a gun fielder in the outfield.

In the 62 IPL games, he has picked 76 wickets at a decent economy rate of 8.4. Boult has set himself a base price of 2 crores. He did not have the best of seasons for Mumbai Indians in 2021 IPL, but trust the pacer to bounce back in style.

3: Jonny Bairstow

England wicketkeeper batter Jonny Bairstow took IPL by storm when he arrived in 2019. He formed a lethal combination at the top with David Warner and pummeled the opposition bowlers with his dazzling stroke play. Bairstow though could not replicate his blitz for a couple of seasons for SRH. He was also not retained by the franchise. The wicketkeeper batter has registered in the auction with a base price of 1.5 crores.

There are a lot of teams like MI, RCB, and PBKS who do not have designated wicketkeeper batter. Bairstow’s match-winning skills, coupled with his smart glovework might land him a lucrative deal in the mega auction. In 28 IPL games, he has scored 1038 runs at a strike rate of 142.19.

4: Kagiso Rabada

South African pacer Kagiso Rabada will be up for grabs in the mega auction. Strangely he was not retained by Capitals as they choose to go with Anrich Nortje. It is a no-brainer Rabada will be on the radar of quite a few teams due to his wicket-taking abilities with bat and ball. In the past year, he has also developed into a handy lower-order batter. Kagiso Rabada is also one of few rare fast bowlers who does not often break down due to injuries.

The speedster has set himself a base price of 2 crores. DC have a chance to buy Kagiso Rabada back, but it will come with a cost as few other teams might target him due to his consistency and match-winning skills.

5: Wanindu Hasaranga

Sri Lankan leg spinner Wanindu Hasaranga had an exceptional year in T20Is in 2021. He ended up picking 34 wickets and was one of the shining lights in the Lankan team. Hasaranga also ended up as the highest wicket-taker in 2021 and proved a handful to teams like Australia and West Indies in the Super 12 stage. His exploits with the ball also earned him his maiden IPL contract for RCB.

Hasaranga though could not play many games in the 2021 season but with no tours lined up for Sri Lanka during the IPL window, few franchises can target the leg spinner during the mega auction. Hasaranga also is a good lower-order batter and also a handy pinch hitter.
