After being put into bat first by KKR, Sanju Samson came into bat in the third over of the innings after the wicket of Devdutt Padikkal. Along with Jos Buttler, he started on a positive note, with an aim to help his team post a good total.
After Umesh Yadav took the wicket of Padikkal in the first ball of the 3rd over, Samson started off cautiously and played five dot balls, giving the bowler a wicket-maiden. He opened his account in the eighth ball he faced by scoring a boundary off Sunil Narine.
He soon got into the act and scored two back-to-back boundaries off Umesh Yadav in the next over to build his innings. He finished the powerplay by scoring an extravagant six over covers to help his team score 38/1 by the end of six overs.
Even after Buttler departed, the skipper continued to play sensibly and got to his fifty off 37 deliveries in the 14th over of the innings. This was his 17th IPL half-century. Samson scored a fifty in the first match of this season against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
