A day after Team India lost the first England Test at Leeds, the management has released pacer Harshit Rana from the squad, as per a report in the Times of India. The pacer, who was part of the Australia tour, was kept in the squad as a precautionary measure, wasn’t seen boarding the bus to Birmingham.
Harshit Rana Was Kept as Precautionary Measure
Meanwhile, after the crushing defeat, the team is expected to rest for two days, and then will start training for the second IND vs ENG Test, starting July 8. “I haven’t spoken to the chairman selector; I will speak to the chairman of selectors because there was a bit of a niggle in the group. That is why we wanted him as a backup,” Gambhir had said on Rana following the first match.
“But at the moment, everything looks fine, so if everyone is fine, he would have to fly back,” he added. As far as the first Test is concerned, it turned out to be a poor outing for the visitors. Despite four centurions across two innings, poor fielding and bowling is what led the team down.
Enough Bowling Options Available Still
Yashasvi Jaiswal alone went on to drop four sitters, that cost India big. Apart from that, as usual, Jasprit Bumrah did not get the desired support from the other bowlers. Prasidh Krishna was way to expensive, and Mohammed Siraj showed inability to pick up wickets. Shardul Thakur did not get enough overs to bowl.
India’s squad: Shubman Gill (c), Rishabh Pant (wk), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel (wk), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammad Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana.
