Ashwin came to bowl for India against Leicestershire on Day 4 of the warm-up game. Previously doubts were raised as to whether the veteran all-rounder would not take any part in the upcoming Test match. However, these are positive signs that Ashwin will be in contention for the fifth test.
Ashwin began light training on Day 2 of the warmup game. This was the first time that Ashwin took any action on the field. The ace spinner proved his worth after coming to bowl. Ashwin dismissed Indian opener, Shubman Gill. Gill went back to the pavilion after a gritty knock of 63 runs.

Earlier this week Ashwin missed his flight to England after testing positive for Covid-19. The spinner kept himself isolated before recovering. The BCCI made full preparations for his travel to England once Ashwin recovered. Initially, there were no plans to involve Ashwin in the warm-up game.
However, Ashwin joined the Indian squad a couple of days ago and took part in light training as he still recovered to his full fitness. With Indian skipper Rohit Shamra testing positive for Covid-19 today, Ashwin was given a chance to get match practice.
