“If I wanted, I could have made a comeback 2-3 weeks ago only. I could have played the T20 series against West Indies. But then, my thought process was that whenever you play, you give your 110 percent. Don’t even play at 99 percent. I believe I should be able to perform better than the time before I got injured,” said Chahar to News24.

Injuries and lack of match fitness have plagued the talented all-rounder for quite a long time. Chahar last featured for the Men in Blue earlier this year in February when India took on West Indies in the 3rd T20I. Chahar picked up an injury on his quadriceps and spent some time away from the National team.

In the meantime, he was picked up in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 by Chennai Super Giants (CSK) for a mega-amount of 14 Crores. But, things took a wrong turn when the all-rounder while going through his recovery at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) picked up a back injury.

This injury forced him from taking any part in IPL 2022. Following the IPL, Chahar once again missed the 5-match T20I series against South Africa as he continued his recovery. Post the home series against South Africa, Chahar also went on to miss the tour against Ireland, England, and now the tour in West Indies.

With the Asia Cup and the ICC T20 World Cup on the horizon, Chahar has now recovered and has also matched his match fitness. Raring to make his way back into the Indian team, Chahar is now eager to play for the Blue shirt against Zimbabwe, scheduled to take place later this month.

“I’ve had a lot of injuries in the past. But I have always believed that whenever you get injured, it gives you time to get back to basics. If you have any weaknesses, it give you time to work on them. I’ve always worked on my game whenever I got injured,” said Chahar.

Deepak Chahar will now aim to give his best in every opportunity that he gets. With India yet to decide and finalize on the team that will take part in the T20 World Cup, Chahar will give fancy a chance in the squad in the coming days.
