It was seen that three fans entered the ground in three different parts of the field and ran towards the Indian players. Security personnel and police were seen chasing the pitch invaders who tried dodging the police but were ultimately caught and escorted away from the field. One of the pitch invaders apparently clicked a selfie with Virat Kohli.

The incident took place during the sixth over of the Sri Lankan spell as Kusal Mendis was being attended by the medical team after being hit by a Mohammed Shami delivery. One of the invaders approached Kohli asked the Indian player for a selfie, which Kohli obliged.
“Security concern is an issue. We did not realise and suddenly saw three intruders on the pitch. The craze is high and we do not have any control over that,” Jasprit Bumrah said after the match.
