Chasing a target of 193 was never going to be an easy task for Hong Kong, especially with quality bowlers in India camp. India started on the right note with Arshdeep Singh removing Yasim Murtaza in the 2nd over. However, Babar Hayat made India’s bowling look mediocre. He took on Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh in the powerplay. While he was dismissed Ravindra Jadeja, he scored a fighting 41 off 35 balls.
But before the powerplay got over, India removed Hong Kong captain Nizakat Khan. All the credit goes to Ravindra Jadeja whose direct hit was on impeccable. But Hong Kong still managed to score 51/2 in the powerplay.

With no Hardik Pandya, Virat Kohli too rolled his arm over to contribute with an over in exchange for 6 runs. But both Arshdeep Singh and Avesh Khan will raise concerns for Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid. Both were poor against Hong Kong. Arshdeep ended up with 1/44 in his 4 while Avesh Khan conceded 53 in his 4 for 1 wicket.
For Hong Kong, Kinchit Shah (30 off 28) and, Zeeshan Ali (26 off 17) and Scott McKechnie (16 off 8) played small cameos. However, it was not going to be enough. In the end, Hong Kong ended up with 152/5 in 20 overs to lose the match by 40 runs.

Earlier, sent to bat, India struggled with the slow nature of the Dubai pitch. While Rohit Sharma looked in good touch, scoring 21 off 13, he fell to Ayush Shukla. KL Rahul and Virat Kohli both struggled to get going. They added 56 runs for the 2nd wicket off 49 balls. Rahul managed a sluggish 36 off 39 with a strike rate of just 92.31.
Virat Kohli also struggled, scoring less than a run-a-ball in the beginning. But he accelerated later in his innings. However, it is his 44-ball 59-run knock that will give him a much-needed confidence boost ahead of the potential Pakistan clash on Sunday.
But the showstopper and star of the show was Suryakumar Yadav. He was on assault mode from word go. Thanks to him, India 94/2 in 13 overs to 192/2. India added 98 off the last 42 balls and all thanks to Suryakumar Yadav. He smashed 62 runs off just 26 balls. His knock included 6 giant sixes and 6 fours. But it was the last over that made the difference. Suryakumar smashed Haroon Arshad for 26 runs including 4 sixes to take India to 192/2. Virat Kohli also remained not out for 59 of 44 balls. His innings included 3 sixes and a solitary 4.
However, Rohit Sharma’s decision to rest Hardik Pandya to include Rishabh Pant did not work out as planned. Pant did not get to bat.
