Still unhappy with Dube-Rana swap, Buttler takes a cheeky jibe at Suryakumar Yadav’s Team India

Jos Buttler won the toss and elected for field first in Mumbai in the 5th IND vs ENG T20I.

It looks like Jos Buttler is still livid with what transpired in the fourth India vs England T20I in Pune. From a 2-hour drive from the MCA Stadium, England captain Buttler took a cheeky dig in front of Suryakumar Yadav and Ravi Shastri. In the previous T20I, the match officials allowed India to replace Shivam Dube with Harshit Rana after the southpaw was hit on his head in the first innings. Rana, who wasn’t a like-for-like replacement for Dube, played a huge role in England’s win despite coming in as a concussion sub. Buttler didn’t let go of a chance of proving his disappointment again during the toss.

Cheeky Jos Buttler trolls India

During the toss, Buttler intentionally referred to his non-playing players as “Impact subs.” This was a clear jibe, as there are no Impact subs in international cricket. Buttler took a dig as he thinks India used the concussion sub as “Impact substitution.”

“We played some good cricket in patches. We should have executed it better though. Need to grab the special moments in the game. There’s a good vibe in the team, it’s a good venue and it’s a great crowd. It’s a good wicket, Mark Wood comes back in. Both teams are high-octane. We have four impact subs in our team.” Jos Buttler said during the toss.

What is Buttler upset about?

After the last T20I, England captain Jos Buttler criticized India’s decision to use Harshit Rana as a concussion replacement for Shivam Dube, who had scored 53 runs before being hit on the helmet by a delivery from Jamie Overton.

Buttler argued that the concussion substitute wasn’t a “like-for-like” replacement, especially since Rana, a medium pacer, was brought in to replace Dube, who is typically used as an impact player. Rana went on to take three wickets, including that of Liam Livingstone, leading Buttler to question whether the concussion protocol was properly followed.

Buttler sarcastically remarked that either Dube had improved his bowling speed or Rana had become a better batsman. India’s bowling coach, Morne Morkel, defended the move, explaining that the decision was made by the match referee after being informed of the change.
