IND vs ENG LIVE – Virat Kohli tested positive? Covid-19 threat is again looming large on India vs England rescheduled 5th Test in Birmingham. Already a case of Covid has been reported in England camp. Other than this, India’s off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin is yet to arrive in England as he tested positive. Times of India has reported that Kohli too was struck by Covid-19 after the team landed in London last week. Kohli before boarding the flight to London was on holidays in Maldives.  The paper has quoted a source saying Kohli tested positive after landing in London. 

InsideSport also had earlier reported that Kohli was seen visiting hospital after he came back from his holidays.

“Yes, Virat too was hit by Covid after returning from holidaying in Maldives, but he’s recovered now,” a source told TOI.

IND vs ENG LIVE – Why 5th Test is facing Covid Cloud? England & Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has confirmed that England team’s batting coach Marcus Trescothick has tested positive.

England captain Ben Stokes is also feeling unwell. Stokes tested negative but did not train with the team. The UK based media has reported that Stokes is now doubtful for the 3rd TEST vs New Zealand.

Other than this Ashwin also tested positive before boarding the flight for UK. As per the information with InsideSport, Ashwin has now recovered and will fly to London on Friday.

Same is the case with Virat Kohli. The former Indian captain is now recovered but the message is clear that unless or untill team doesn’t stay careful, Covid can breach the CRICKET-WALLS again.

This is the reason the BCCI is not too amused with Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma. Despite the advisories, the players were seen mingling with fans openly without mask and social distancing.

The players have now been asked to avoid crowded places due to the evolving situation in a pandemic. 

The likes of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have been seen taking selfies with fans in Leicester and London as India prepare for the warm-up match against Leicestershire County Cricket Club.

“The Covid threat is reduced in the UK. But still players should be more careful. We will ask the team to be a little careful,” said Arun Dhumal BCCI treasurer to InsideSport.

IND vs ENG Live: Why Covid scare loom large on Indian team before 5th Test?

  • The Covid-19 pandemic is still raging with the UK reporting over 10,000 new cases every day.
  • Despite advisory to players on avoiding crowded places, they have been seen mingling with fans without any mask.
  • Although all the players are fully vaccinated, a Covid-19 positive result will put the player in 5-day isolation and that could rule him out of the Edgbaston Test.
  • BCCI has warned the players against mingling with fans.
  • Last time, Team India refused to field the team after a Covid-19 outbreak in Indian camp following Ravi Shastri’s book launch party in London.
  • The 5th Test has now been rescheduled to be played from July 1.

Currently, the UK have been reporting nearly 10,000 Covid-19 positive cases every day. The weekly average in London is 11,221 alone while in Leicester, it is over 1600 cases per day.

It should also be noted that the New Zealand cricket team which is currently touring England for a three-match Test series has seen an outbreak of Covid-19 in their camp. As many as 6 players and support staff have tested positive for the virus including captain Kane Williamson.

The last time India were in the UK, the 5th Test had to be rescheduled due to a Covid outbreak in India’s camp.

The covid cases emerged following Ravi Shastri’s book launch party in London.

As many as four support staff including head coach Ravi Shastri tested positive and the Indian players including Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma refused to play the match at Manchester and returned home the next day.
