England prepare for Ashwin voodoo as Lucknow pitch to assist spin

Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root focused on sweeps and playing spin as England anticipate trial by spin in Lucknow.

Ravichandran Ashwin or Mohammad Shami? As every fan is asking the big question ahead of IND vs ENG Cricket World Cup game, the England Cricket Team are not leaving everything to chance. Even as there is every hint that Lucknow pitch will turn, India Cricket Team has stayed mum. Ashwin, Shami, Siraj, Bumrah and Kuldeep all had their full-fledged practice. But who plays is still a mystery.

But as a struggling England anticipate trial by spin at low and slow Ekana Stadium, Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root switched to sweeping practice at the nets on Saturday ahead of IND vs ENG clash.

IND vs ENG Practice Highlights:

  • Battered and bruised, England Cricket Team is out of reckoning in the Cricket World Cup. But with mathematical chances, England are aiming to win the remaining three games including IND vs ENG match.
  • Before talking about any chances, the defending champions will have to win against India.
  • But the Lucknow pitch is expected to offer some turn for the spinners.
  • And that brings Ashwin back in contention. Ashwin has been a difficult bowler to play for England and they are preparing for it.
  • Both Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root practised sweep shots even though most of the England batters had a light training session ahead of IND vs ENG clash.

Lucknow Pitch Under Spotlight

As per a RevSportz report, Lucknow will use the same pitch as the South Africa vs Australia game. Proteas did post 300+ total but that surface had some grass on it. On Sunday, the remaining grass will be trimmed down and the surface will be dry.

The dry pitch will have some assistance for spinners and that will force India to play three spinners. Kuldeep Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin along with Ravindra Jadeja will be the main threats.

England Squad for Cricket World Cup: Jonny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Jos Buttler(w/c), Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, Chris Woakes, David Willey, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood, Sam Curran, Brydon Carse, Harry Brook, Gus Atkinson
