IND vs ENG 2nd ODI: After security lapse in Ranji, Virat Kohli’s return to Odisha prompts authorities to boost presence

Cuttack is preparing to undertake a slew of measures for IND vs ENG 2nd ODI which marks return of ODI action after a gap of 6 years

The Barabati stadium in Odisha’s Cuttack is all set to see an increased presence of security personnel for IND vs ENG 2nd ODI. The venue will host its first ODI match since 2019 on Sunday. With limited-overs action returning to the venue after more than half a decade, the authorities are mulling a series of steps to be taken for and ahead of the contest. After Nagpur, Virat Kohli and co. will travel to Cuttack for the second ODI.

IND vs ENG 2nd ODI sends Cuttack buzzing

As per reports, security will be strengthened in and around the Barabati Stadium in Odisha’s Cuttack for IND vs ENG 2nd ODI. Further, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) will undertake beautification, sanitation and fogging operations around the venue. The security boost for the game comes at a time when Virat Kohli’s Ranji Trophy return witnessed three fan invasions, raising eyebrows on the security for the event.

Reports state that a high-level meeting was held on Tuesday to review preparations for the contest. Members from the  district administration, the Odisha Cricket Association (OCA), Odisha Olympic Association, police and health departments and the CMC were in attendance for the meeting to finalize the arrangements.

The entry and exit of people will be regulated through four designated gates, with personnel stationed to manage security and sanitation,” Cuttack Deputy Commissioner of Police, Jagmohan Meena, said.

Further, the district health department will deploy ambulances and medical teams to attend to any emergencies at the venue. Food safety officers are also set to be stationed at the venue to monitor the hygiene at the food stalls. Special bus services will operate from Cuttack’s Netaji Bus Terminus, Trishulia and the railway station.
