A fresh pitch is set to be rolled out for the IND vs ENG 1st ODI in Nagpur which will take place on February 6. The surface at the Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) was criticised by the Australian team when the last played at the venue in a Test match in 2023. The ODI against England will mark the start of India’s 50-over campaign as they gear up for ICC Champions Trophy.
Fresh pitch for IND vs ENG 1st ODI
As per Times of India, a VCA source claimed that the pitch looked like a 300+ run wicket at the moment. The source added that spinners are likely to get assistance from the surface in the second half. Further, the source said that while the surface was grassy at the moment, it could be shaved off.
“It seems a 300-plus wicket right now, with some help for spinners in the second half. It looks grassy but that might be shaved off,” VCA sources told TOI.

On Tuesday, India vice-captain Shubman Gill told reporters that no instructions were given from the Indian camp on the preparation of the pitch for the contest. He admitted that it was hard to predict how the wicket would turn out to be. Gill further said that he did not see the grass being shaved off, adding that some grass would be kept as the surface dries pretty soon at the venue.
Should spinners be favoured, then the likes of Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja and Varun Chakravarthy will be itching to bowl at the venue to torment England. The series marks the audition stage for the Men in Blue before heading into the Champions Trophy which commences from February 19 onwards.
