Smriti Mandhana’s batting masterclass, Deepti’s bowling decimates PAK
After opting to bat first on a tricky Edgbaston wicket, Team India went to lose two early wickets, and were reduced to 18/2 in 3.2 overs. For large part of the 10 overs, the side struggled to get going, and boundaries were hard to come by. But Smriti Mandhana did not give up. After weathering the storm, she played a blinder to score a fifty in only 34 deliveries.
Post that, Richa Ghosh also made the Pakistani bowlers pay, and in the last few overs, slammed 34 from 17. The 19th over by Tasmia Rubab fetched India 23 runs, that took the score to 170. Come the chase, Pakistan raced to 52/1 in the PP, but from there on, all hell broke loose.
Deepti Sharma came into the attack after the PP, and picked up a wicket in the very first over — getting rid of Ayesha Zafar. And that was the start of the end for PAK. From there they were bundled out for 106, with Deepti returning with figures of 5/10.
