‘I will cheer from home’: Shubman Gill not wary of T20 World Cup squad selection

Shubman Gill, has scored 304 runs in 9 matches with an impressive average of 38 in IPL 2024

Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill has claimed that he is not worried about his potential selection for the upcoming T20 World Cup in June. Even though he’s a leading contender for India’s squad, Gill, who is the second-highest run-getter for GT this season, stated that he’s entirely focused on his current IPL campaign.

“If I don’t get selected for the T20 World Cup team, I’ll cheer for India from home,” Gill said in an interview with Sportstak.

Shubman Gill, who has scored 304 runs in 9 matches with an impressive average of 38, played for India in last year’s ODI World Cup. Although he acknowledges that being selected for the national team is a tremendous honour, he has accepted that he can only control what he does on the field.

Focus on IPL and Gujarat Titans: Shubman Gill

Having taken on the captaincy of Gujarat Titans ahead of the IPL 2024 season, Gill is embracing his new leadership role and ensuring that his focus doesn’t waver. “Playing for India is the biggest thing. But if I start thinking about the World Cup, then I will be doing injustice to my current team (GT) and myself,” he said in an interview with PTI.

Gill understands that some factors, like national selection, are beyond his control, and he doesn’t want those thoughts to distract him from his responsibilities with GT. “If I have to be picked for the T20 World Cup, I will be picked. But right now, my focus is on IPL and how to get the best out of my team and perform the best for my team which also helps my players,” he concluded.
