How is India’s Champions Trophy squad different from the ODI World Cup 2023 squad?

Now that India has announced their squad for the big Champions Trophy 2025, take a look at how this team is different from the ODI World Cup 2023.

India’s Champions Trophy squad is now out, and many players expected to be in the team are there. The only big news is the absence of Mohammed Siraj, who was with the team for a long time and is now out of the ODI squad. India, who have mostly had impressive outings in limited-overs cricket, particularly in the 50-over format, have achieved phenomenal success. Currently ranked No. 1 in the ICC ODI rankings, they dominated the Asia Cup in 2023, and their 2023 World Cup campaign needs no introduction. They thumped every team, although the heartbreak came when they lost to Australia in the finals, which is still a sour moment for Indian cricket.

Fans will look to see the same attitude in the upcoming CT 2025 or say “mini World Cup.” Not to forget, India were the 2017 finalists, champions in 2013, and joint winners with Sri Lanka in 2002. All these good memories will inspire them when they step up at the Dubai International Stadium.

As said, the team will aim to perform as they did in the 2023 ODI World Cup, especially in the group stages and semi-final. But do you know what sorts of changes we are going to see? How different is India’s Champions Trophy squad compared to the 2023 World Cup? Take a look at all the important names who played in the 2023 ODI World Cup but are now missing from the Champions Trophy 2025 squad.

The big change in this squad is the inclusion of Rishabh Pant, who was not part of the ODI World Cup 2023. This is expected to be a significant boost for India’s middle order, as Pant is known for his aggressive stroke play and is likely to play a key role this time.

Another new inclusion is the young talent Yashasvi Jaiswal, who has made waves recently, especially in Test cricket. Axar Patel is back in the squad, and even Arshdeep Singh, after showcasing his magical performances in T20 cricket, is now set for ODIs as well.

Apart from these additions, there are significant omissions too. Ishan Kishan, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Shardul Thakur are not part of the squad. Also, Ravichandran Ashwin, who has retired from international cricket, is also absent.
