Glenn Maxwell poor run of form continues, Aussie batter dismissed for golden duck in T20 WC opener

Oman captain Aqib Ilyas caught a screamer to ensure Maxwell spent minimum time on the crease.

Glenn Maxwell is having a season worth forgetting. After a dismal IPL 2024 season, Maxwell began his T20 World Cup 2024 campaign on a similar note when he was dismissed for a golden duck. Maxwell will be key to Australia’s quest for the T20 World Cup trophy and the Aussies will hope he returns to form as soon as possible.

Glenn Maxwell low on confidence

Maxwell on Thursday was dismissed for a golden duck off the bowling of spinner Mehran Khan. Maxwell looked jittery and pushed at a ball that should have been played with softer hands.

World-class catch to send Maxwell to pavillion

However, Aqib Ilyas was the main protagonist behind Maxwell’s dismissal. The Oman captain, fielding at short cover, took a world class catch to help dismiss Maxwell. Ilyas stretched and dove to his left to send Maxwell back to the pavillion.

No way out of poor form

Maxwell is going through a tough few months since the end of the ODI World Cup 2023. He came into the IPL 2024 with a lot of expectations but failed to live up to it. He scored only 52 runs in 10 matches of the tournament that saw RCB get knocked out from the eliminator.
