‘Funny guy with very poor English…’: Yuvraj Singh openly jokes about Rohit Sharma ahead of T20 WC

Yuvraj referred to Rohit's humble background and said he would like to see the coveted ICC trophy in Rohit's hand for all the hard-work he has done.

Rohit Sharma is one of the senior-most players in the Indian dressing room right now. The Indian captain always tries to lead his team by example as he gears up to lead his side in an ICC tournament once more. For someone who has seen Rohit from his formative years, Yuvraj Singh expressed his affection for the Indian skipper and backed him as a crucial factor in India’s pursuit for an ICC trophy after a decade.

Rohit Sharma has had his fair share of hearbreaks in the Indian jersey in ICC tournaments, be it the semi-finals of the last T20 World Cup or the final of last year’s ODI World Cup.

‘Rohit will be crucial in India’s T20 WC pursuit’

Speaking on ICC’s official website, T20 World Cup‘s brand ambassador Yuvraj said, “(Rohit’s presence is going to be) very crucial. I think we need a really good captain, a sensible captain who takes decisions well under pressure. And he’s the one to take them.”

He was the captain when we lost in the (Cricket World Cup) 50-over final (in 2023). He has won five IPL trophies as a captain. I think we need somebody like him to captain India,” Yuvraj added.

‘He never changed as a person’

Yuvraj also referred to Rohit’s humble background and said he would like to see the coveted ICC trophy in Rohit’s hand for all the hard-work he has done.

Very poor English,” Yuvraj said jokingly. “Very funny guy. From the streets of Borivali (in Mumbai), we always tease him. But a great guy at heart.

The more success he’s had, he has never changed as a person. That’s the beauty of Rohit Sharma. Fun-loving, always having fun with the guys, A great leader on the park and one of my closest friends from cricket.

I really want to see Rohit Sharma with a World Cup trophy and a World Cup medal. He really deserves it,” he concluded.
